The effort to provide opportunities for foreign or international students to study at Islamic religious universities in Indonesia, the Nahdlatul Ulama Scholarship (NUS) launched the Civilization Scholarship program. This program aims to facilitate Muslim students from foreign countries to study Islamic studies in Indonesia.
Registration for the Civilization Scholarship is open online from May 1 to June 20 2024. Registration is done independently via the NU Scholarship website at https://nuscholarship.or.id/pengeretanan. The Director of the NU Scholarship, Muhammad Syauqillah, said that the Civilization Scholarship is intended for foreign citizens who are interested in studying at Ma'had Aly, which is a tertiary institution owned by Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. "We hope that these international students can study Islamic studies in Indonesia, so that Indonesian Islamic scholarship can become a role model for the Islamic world," said Syauqillah.
Furthermore, Syauqillah explained that the NUS scholarship team had visited several Islamic boarding schools that had Ma'had Aly and recommended several of them to work together to accept foreign students. "We hope that the experience of Indonesian education and nationality can be transmitted to foreign students who will come. We have determined the selections and regulations to ensure the quality of the education provided," he added.
It is hoped that the Civilization Scholarship can provide a new nuance in scientific and cultural exchange. Apart from sending young Indonesian cadres to study abroad, this program also seeks to attract resources from abroad to study in Indonesia. "We hope they can contribute to creating a more humane world civilization," concluded Syauqillah.
