Mentors
NUS mentors are responsible for providing guidance, support and encouragement to scholarship recipients throughout their studies. The role of mentors is very important in ensuring that scholarship recipients can reach their maximum potential, both academically and personally.
Companion General Duties
- Academic Mentoring: Mentors assist scholarship recipients in planning their academic path, selecting courses, and overcoming academic challenges they may face. They also provide advice on how to improve academic performance and take advantage of available educational opportunities.
- Emotional Support: College studies can be an emotionally challenging experience for many students. Scholarship companions provide emotional support to scholarship recipients, listen to their problems, and provide moral support when needed.
- Skills Building: Mentors help scholarship recipients develop the skills necessary for success in the academic and professional world. This can include study skills, social skills, leadership skills, and others.
- Resource Referrals: Mentors help scholarship recipients access educational resources and other supports available on campus or in the surrounding community. They assist in navigating the education system and connecting students with the right services.
- Career Coaching: Mentors help scholarship recipients plan their careers after graduation, provide advice on career options, assist with job searches, and provide insight into specific industries or employment.
Mentors in NUS not only act as mentors or mentors, but also as caring friends and supporters who help students overcome obstacles and achieve success during their studies.
