The Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) has officially opened registration for its scholarship program for santri (Islamic boarding school students) wishing to pursue higher education in Morocco. This scholarship is a result of collaboration between PBNU and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco in the field of education.

Chairman of Rabithah Ma'ahid Islamiyah (RMI) PBNU, KH Hodri Ariev, stated that the registration has reopened with a significant change in the scholarship requirements compared to previous years.

“One of the main changes is in the Qur’an memorization requirement. Previously, applicants were required to have memorized 8 juz. This year, the requirement has increased to 30 juz,” explained Kiai Hodri to NU Online on Friday (May 2, 2025).

The scholarship covers various facilities, including tuition fees, accommodation, meals, and a monthly stipend. Registration for the Morocco scholarship is completely free of charge.

For the 2025–2026 academic year, the partner universities under the PBNU-Morocco scholarship program include:

- Fatimah al-Fihriyah University (Fes)

- Al-Qadi al-Faqih Abdalla ben Said Al-Oujdi University (Oujda)

- Imam Nafi University (Tangier)

- Daarul Qur’an Imam Malik University (Tetouan)

- Al Hasan Al Yusiy Institute (Sefrou)

- Al Faqih Ar Rohwuni University (Kenitra)

Selection Process

Applicants who pass the administrative selection will proceed to the oral test and interview stage, scheduled for May 27–29, 2025. The results of the first stage will be announced on June 2, 2025.

Successful candidates will then enter an incubation program as preparation for the *Muqobalah* (final selection) by the Moroccan Ministry of Awqaf. The incubation schedule will be announced at a later date.

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Registration must be submitted by an Islamic boarding school (pondok pesantren)

2. A diploma from Diniyah Ulya, Muadalah, or Islamic senior high school (issued within the last 3 years)

3. Age between 18 and 25 years

4. Certificate of Qur’an memorization (30 Juz)

5. Recommendation letter from the local PCNU or RMI

6. Willingness to serve NU upon graduation (proven by a signed statement)

7. Commitment to follow all stages of the selection process

4. Syahadah Hifdzil Mutun* (optional)

5. Recent color passport photo (4x6 cm)

6. Letter of recommendation from the pesantren leader
